Gasping for a last breath of smoke filled air, Leaf closed her eyes and lay still on the floor of the chamber. Although her life was short she had brought two litters of healthy pups into the world and yet sadly the younger pups would never know their father nor now remember their real mother. On her dying thought her heart went out to her sister, Morning Glory. She had been the support Leaf had needed in their troubled time out in the desert alone together and she even had the strength to care for her nieces and nephews for when their mother failed to fulfil her responsibility as a parent. With the exhale of her breath, her spirit slipped away.

Unaware of the loss of her sister back at the burrow, Morning Glory lay in the single chamber of the bolt hole alongside the pups feeling withdrawn and morally low. Her inexperience as a dominant has cost her dearly and she could only be the one to blame for not acting quicker and calmer when faced with such a devastating situation. Placing a paw over her face, she could only imagine the worst possible outcome.

Scared and concerned for his adoptive parents, Sanders huddled his forearms around young Jet tightly not wanting to lose another family member.

Jet tried to see out through squinted eyes but failed to see anything but darkness.

Noticing the flames being blown in her direction, Josephine jumped down from her rock and hurried away as quick as possible. Sadly for herself and the meerkat group there was no turning back to that burrow and she continued with her head held low towards the boundary that the Tiny Kats share with the Midnights.

May Went Below ground And Spotted Sanders Huddled With Jet . She Smiled At To Sanders By The Scruff of His Neck And Carried Him Above Ground She Dropped Him And Went Down Again She Picked Up Jet And Also Dropped Him But Softly Near Sanders And Karma And Elena .

Watching May get up and wander away, Sanders tried to drag Jet back into the shade of the bolt hole. Tired after four short drags he stopped and dropped onto the sand.

Not liking being pulled about, Jet made a continuous grumpy mumbling noise until he came to a stop, not realising it was Sanders who was doing the dragging.
